Only one more week left in Nauvoo.

Monday- Aug. 26, 2013
Sister Harris served at the Family Living Center again today from 8:45 am to 12:00 noon and then came back at 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.  I received a call from Elder Jardine and so I left because of a medical emergency and went and served in Heber C. Kimball's home at 3: 07 pm.  While I was there we didn't have one tour.  They had one tour in the morning and that is all we had for the day.  You can tell it has really slow down, of course Heber's home is off the main track so people don't come as much to his home.  I really love his home their are so many special stories to tell in his home and such a good feeling there.
Elder Harris served in the Browning's Gun Shop from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm.  He said he had at least 7 or 8 tours.  In the evening we moved some of our moving containers up strairs so I can start packing.  We leave here next week, after Labor Day Celebration.  I will put in some pictures of our place.

               This is the Kitchen.
 I made this flower arrangement.

I added the red canisters.

I put flowers on top to make it more homey.

This is what my frig. looks like. I can enjoy our family here.

Here are some pictures of our front room.

Sunday- Aug. 25, 2013

Sunday- Aug. 25-13
Today was Elder Harris' lesson. He does such a good job.  Everyone didn't know how funny he is until he gave his lesson.  He had them laughing a lot and they thought he was so serious all the time.  He is so shy at times until you get to know him.  Everyone was so surprised.  They said we both did such good jobs on our lessons but I know it was because the spirit helped us both.  Later on that evening we had a dinner with the April MTC group that came out here with us.  Some of them will be leaving in a month because they are only here for Six months.  We will be sad to see them go.  Our good friends Elder & Sister Harding will be going home.  We won't be here to spend to much time with them because We will be in Carthage Jail.  We had a great spiritual day today, happy days are here again....
Elder Harris took this really neat pictures of the moon the other night.

These pictures are so neat over the Mississippi River.  It was getting dark so they are not very clear but interesting how red the moon was.

Another week-Aug.18 to 24

Sunday Aug. 18, 2013
Today Elder Harris went early so he could help put up chairs but by the time he got there they were all done.  Today I was a little nervous but wasn't too bad because I was giving the Sunday School Lesson to 250 missionaries in the class.  Went to Sacrament meeting and it was really good.  We are having some couple missionaries going home so they are giving their last talks.  Then we went to Sunday School class.  I had left early to see if Elder Bennion could help me set up my lap top with pictures on it to be shone on the big screen but it didn't work.  So I just did my lesson without the pictures but the Lord was with me and everybody told me they loved my lesson. It was Lesson 30th, "Let the Prisoners go Free"

This is the Mississippi River at the end of the Trail of Hope.

I had some other Sisters, Sister Ballard, helping me with a closing song at the end of my lesson.  One of them, Sister Campbell, plays a violin, and it did turn out to be a beautiful song.  It is the one in the Primary song book.  Well, I am glad that is over.   Now Elder Harris is nervous. This Sunday is his turn.   He'll do a great job because it is natural for him to be up in front of people.
Today we also had District Meeting in our home and we served Navajo Tacos.  They were very good.
We had to choose a Christ like Attribute  and find a scripture to go with it and tell a personal story.  So I had a full day this Sunday.  The good thing is that we didn't have to do sites this day.   We had a day off.  I'm ready for bed.

Monday, Aug. 19, 2013
Sister Harris did Fm today.  I went to work at 7:00 am until 1:00 pm.  We worked on the other side of the fence at the Lyon Drug and Variety Store.  It looks so good now.  Elder Harris served in the Print Shop.  He is really good in any of his sites.  We had a free night and Elder Harris ran into Jimmy & Cynthia Blake and they said they were going to the Rendezvous tonight so we went with them at 7:00 pm.  Jimmy & Cynthia really enjoyed watching the couples do such a good job.

Tuesday- Aug. 20, 2013
Today Sister Harris served in Land and Records and it was fun when Jimmy & Cynthia Blake came in to find their ancestors and where their land would be, if they had any land.  Before Jimmy & Cynthia came in, they went to the Nauvoo Temple in the AM.

They said it was their first time to see the new movie and they said it was great.  We haven't seen the new movie yet but will see it Thursday morning.  It was fun to see them.  I need them to send me some pictures they took with us.  So I can put it in our blog.  They were leaving after they finish Land & Records.
After we got done with our sites at 3:00 pm we went and visited President Gililand because he had called us in the am to come and see him.  When we got to the Visitor Center and up to the Presidents office he called us to move to Carthage Jail and be there for at least six months.  I am excited to serve there because their is certainly a special spirit in the jail.  I do feel bad to leave my home here in Nauvoo.  I just love my place.
                                                    Flowers on our porch.

This butterfly was on our yellow flower this pm. Beautiful Butterfly.

Later that night we had a cast party and when we drove home this is what we saw.  The Temple and a full moon.

Wednesday- Aug. 21, 2013
We had our early morning Training Meeting at 8:00 am.  After the meeting Sister Harris went to the Family Living Center- 8:45 am to 3:00 pm.  I got to make 6 loafs of bread and bake it in the Bustle Oven.  It is really fun to bake in that oven made out of bricks.  My bread turned out pretty good. When the people come and learn about the oven then they get to taste the bread.  We teach others how the pioneers make candles and about wool and flex fiber.  They teach them how to make a rope and take a rope home and how to do pottery and how a barrel holds water and how to weave a rug.

Here are some pictures of flowers in front of the Family Living Center.
These flowers are so large and beautiful at this time of year.

Elder Harris served at the Blacksmiths Shop.  He teaches about how the pioneers make wagon wheels and they all get a prairie diamond ring.  He also makes a small horse shoe to give to each family.

Here is Elder Harris in his new vest that Kisti-Jo made for him.  Thanks so much Kisti.

We did our Rendezvous tonight.  The Scott's did Noah & Sophia tonight.  They do a pretty good job.  We do ours on Saturday night.

Thursday- Aug. 22, 2013
Happy Wedding Anniversary to Tami and Ken Bonney.
This is our preparation day and so we went to the Nauvoo Temple and saw the new movie.  We hadn't been able to go until now. It was wonderful.  I love how they show how much love they have for everyone.  Our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ really do want us all to know how much love they have for us.  We certainly have a lot of love for them.  Well, after the temple we drove to Carthage Jail.  We went to see the places we will be moving in to.  When the Sister Missionaries move back here to Nauvoo we are to live in their place in the Mansion.  We'll have to take pictures later and put in here.  It is a really beautiful place but we only live there for one month then we move into Elder & Sister Nagel's house.  They showed us their place.  It is smaller than the home we are in right now but it will be good.  Then we went shopping at Keokuk.

Friday- Aug. 23, 2013
Sister Harris served at the Cultural Hall.  Here are some beautiful pictures of the flowers in front of the Cultural Hall.  This is where we do Rendezvous.

Here is Sister Harris with these beautiful flowers that are so big they just hang down.  I just can't believe how big the flowers are here in Nauvoo.  They water them every day.

Here is Elder Harris, I finally got his picture to be up right.  Friday He served in the Family Living Center from 12:00 pm until 600 pm.

Saturday- Aug. 24, 2013
Elder Harris served in the Brick Shop today at 8:45 am to 3:00 pm.  He likes doing this site but it does hurt his back when he makes bricks because of the sitting position he is in.  He really enjoys  telling people how they make the bricks.  Sister Harris served at the Heber C. Kimball's home.  I really enjoy this home and it is the original home.  I was there from 8:45 am to 3:00 pm.  Elder and Sister Harris had the same shift today.
We also had Rendezvous tonight and we had to do Two shows.  Elder & Sister Harris did the Noah & Sophia and we did it twice and the whole cast got a standing ovation both times.   That was fun because we did it perfect two times in a row.  That is a Nauvoo Miracle for us.  Some friends took our pictures and we will put them in the blog when I get them.

Week of Aug.12 to Aug.17

Monday- Aug. 12, 2013
Sister Harris is in the Pendleton Log School at 12:00 noon until 6:oo pm today.  It is fun to tell the children about the school system here in Nauvoo at the time of the pioneers.  Elder Harris is in the Tin Shop and it is fun to see all the things they make out of tin.  we have a free night so we can do anything we want to.  We are usually so tired that we stay home.

Tuesday- Aug. 13, 2013
This was new and different for Sister Harris because she went to the Tin Shop but she has never served there before so on Monday I took a tour from Elder Harris so I would know how to tell people how to make a skimming pan.  So here I am in the Tin shop and I actually did pretty good for a first day.  It was really neat to see all the patterns he makes to make pans and things. We need patterns in our lives like the 4th Article of Faith says: Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and Enduring to the end.
Elder Harris was in the Print Shop, he is so good there.  He knows how to give really good tours they tell me.

Wednesday- Aug. 14, 2013
We went to our training meeting at 8:00 am and then to our sites.  Sister Harris & Elder Harris served at the Pioneer Pastime.  It is always fun there but we didn't have very many come because the tourest have really slowed down.
The Single Sisters left today, there were about 5 of them.  Their 18 months is up.
We did the Rendezvous tonight but the Scott's did Noah and Sophia part.

Thursday- Aug. 15, 2013
This was our preparation day today.  I had a hair appointment at 7:00 am and then we needed to buy some food and things so we went to Keokuk.  Nothing exciting happening today.

Friday- Aug. 16, 2013
Sister Harris served at Lucy Mack Smith's home today at 9:00 am  until 12:00 pm then I came back at 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.  She is a wonderful mother.  The church members called her "Mother Smith".
She was only 4 feet and 11 inches tall but she could hold her own with the men that try to see the "Gold Bible" as they call it.  She really knows how to give it to them and she always testifies that she knows that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God and the Book of Mormon is the word of God.  In her home she has the steepest stairs of all the site homes. She never could go up stairs because of her bad arthritis.  Her daughter Lucy and her husband Arthur and two children helped take care of Mother Smith.   Their are a lot of great stories to tell in her home.
Elder Harris served at the Brick Shop.  He really likes that site and is fun to tell about then he gives a brick to each family.  They do make bricks  right their in that shop.

Saturday - Aug. 17, 2013
Elder Harris served in the Family Living Center and he does really well making rope.  He worked there at 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
Sister Harris served in John Taylor's Home.  I just love to share the stories in this home.  It is special and sometimes I feel like he is in his home.  The best story is about the wooden rocking horse.  So dear to my heart that I usually cry as I tell it. You can look in the friend in the past months they tell me it is in there.  Went and did Noah and Sophia this night.  Elder & Sister Harris, they tell us that we did really good the first show and the second show we had a senior moment but it was still good.

The YPM's going home!!

Sunday - Aug. 11, 2013
Elder & Sister Harris served in the Land and Records today.  It is so fun to help people to see if they have any ancestors here in Nauvoo and if they have any land.
In the evening at 6:30 we had our slide show that Elder & Sister Wise do every month.  They are so awesome but I know other missionaries do send them really neat pictures also. Then at 7:00 PM we have our Zion Conference.  After the Zion Conference we had a cookie party for the Single Young Performing Missionaries.  We all were crying as they sang songs to us.  It was so beautiful and the songs touched our hearts.  Here are some pictures of them.

Some of the Young Single Performing Missionaries singing to us.

This couple missionary are Elder & Sister Thornach.  She helped me in my Sunday School Class.

Here are the cookies on the table.  Sister Shaw in the back in the blue jacket.  Sister Kim and behind her is Sister that was a YPM.   In the red dress is Sister Newell,  Sister Ross is to the Left of Sister Newell.  All the sister are so great and we just love them all.

Sister Ross and Sister Newell, her father does the spoken word.

These three Elders are awesome.  The middle Elder is Elder Lyman that is a grandson to Nancy Martineau from Blanding.  The Two sisters to the right are: Sister Ripplinger and Sister Umphenour.
The missionary to the right of Elder Lyman- middle- his father died while he was here doing the Nauvoo Brass band.  He was a missionary here for four months and he is great.  He never went home because he said his father would want him to stay and finish his mission.   He was a very strong missionary and they really needed him in the band.

Left--Sister & Elder Harding- These are one of our good friends in Nauvoo- from Idaho.   To the right is Elder Harding and Elder Chynoweth.
Elder Chynoweth is the first councilor in the mission presidency.
These two elder are awesome.  All the missionaries are going home Tuesday morning.  Sad day!!
This is Sister Harris and Sister Brown and Elder Harris
Three or four days after she left she was back here at Nauvoo because her family came to pick her up and they went to Wisconsin for a few days with family members then they came back to pick up her cloths to go home....It was so fun to see her again.. They all said it was the best experience they have ever had at this point in their lives.
