Carthage Visitor Center & Jail

Wednesday- Sept. 18, 2013
It was fun today to have Norman & Marge Lyman with Yvonne and Lynn Wright to see us at Carthage Visitor Center and Jail.

They were searching for us yesterday at Nauvoo and someone told them that we had moved to Carthage, Illinois so here they are.
They joined with Elder Harris's tour group so I stayed to watch and see if anyone else would be coming.   Elder Harris took them into the Jail.  My friend Sister Brockbank took some pictures of pictures in the Carthage Visitor Center that are really cool.   Here they are.
This is not a picture but is a post card.  When you stand in a certain spot and look into the jail you can see this reflection of Joseph standing in the window.   It is so cool.  It has to be a cloudy day.  Their is a picture of Joseph inside the Visitor Center and it shows him in the jail just like this post card shows it.  It is really awesome!!!!

This artist Mr. Gorka was asked by Elder Boyd K. Packer to paint Joseph by the Mississippi River teaching a family.  He painted himself in the picture.  He is the one with the hat and the man with his hand on his chin is the man that Baptized him.  When he painted the picture is was not Baptized yet.   After the painting he got Baptized.  Isn't that a cool story.  This picture is above a fireplace in the History room of the Carthage Visitor Center.

At the Carthage Visitor Center.

Today, this lady was 88 years old and came to visit the Carthage Visitor Center and Jail with her son for the first time.  She has only been a member for Two years. Her son Baptized her.  It was so fun to get to know her conversion story.  We had about 113 people come to the Carthage Visitor Center and Jail.  It was a geat day, loved it.  We have had some slow days.  Yesterday was only 51 people came.

  1. I don't remember going in the visitor center, but I must have. But I certainly remember going into the room where Hyrum died, and the prophet fell out the window. That left a big impact on me and all the rest of us that day. So glad that you got to see Norman, Marge, Yvonne and Lynn. Must have felt like home.

  2. Kay, My daughter Kimberly has been helping me put the pictures in up right. Norman sent them to me from his phone and they kept going in upside down. They are right now. Thanks for looking at our blog. It makes it worth it when we know someone is enjoying it. It is so good to hear from you. I hope all is well with you. Take care, Love Sister Harris
