Busy life- Nov. to Dec. 2013

Dec 21,2013
Here are some foot notes to catch up on our blog.  We didn't have internet at home for about a week and then I got so busy with Halloween and getting ready for Christmas but now I need to tell you what has happened in our lives.

Nov. 15-16, 2013,
Saturday Night we did Rendezvous and because we had done Jed and Annie on Wednesday for Tami and the kids we didn't have to do it this night.  Elder and Sister Duncan did it this night. We usually only do it once a week. On Wednesday was only our second time to perform Jed and Annie.  Everyday we do the same tour at the Carthage Jail and Visitor Center.

Nov. 17- Sunday,
Every Sunday we go to church at 7:00  or 7:45 sometimes  Elder Harris has to do Sacrament or I need to be early to sing with the Choir. Then we go to the Nauvoo Visitor Center to have Sunday School class and Relief Society.  We are done at 11:00 am and then we drive back to Carthage to serve in the Visitor Center and Jail. We do the Carthage Visitor Center every other Sunday.

Nov. 18 to 21- Thursday.
We have our preparation day on Thursday all the time so we try to drive back to Nauvoo and go to the Temple.  Then at night I and Sister Ballard go the the Messiah practice by 7:00 pm.  We do put a lot of miles on our car going back and forth.  We do Rendezvous every Wednesday and Saturday nights.

Nov 22 to 26- Tuesday night.
I went to a Honey whole wheat bread class in the evening of Nov. 26, 2013.  Elder Bogaski is a baker at home and it was really fun to learn some neat tips in how to make really good bread.  Elder Harris just sat around and read while I took this class.  I brought two loafs of bread home and we really enjoyed that soft bread.  After Christmas I am going to start to make Honey whole wheat bread.

Nov. 27, 2013
After the Rendezvous we stayed because we were ask to be in the live Nativity.  I was asked to sing with the Angles and Elder Harris was asked to be a shepherd.  We practiced our songs after Rendezvous at the Cultural Hall. We are singing about four songs, this will be on December 6th.

Nov. 28, 2013
Thanksgiving Day, We got to close our sites early today at 2:30 pm.  The meal will be in Nauvoo at the church at 3:30 pm.  The Choir sang a Thanksgiving song that we song in Sacrament before the dinner started.  We had a lady and her six sons come to the Carthage Visitor Center & Jail and she said she had no place to go to a Thanksgiving Dinner so we invited her to the Missionary Dinner.  I saved a table for her and she came.  We sat next to her table and it was fun to get to know her.  She is a member but her husband had past away.  She wanted to bring her boys to Nauvoo so they could feel the spirit here, hoping it would help them.  She was probably only 40 years old but a beautiful woman.   Her oldest son was 17 and is going to go on a mission when he turns 18. The Thanksgiving Dinner and  table decorations were awesome!!

Nov. 29th and 30th, 2013,
We worked on Friday and Saturday at the Carthage Jail and Visitor Center.  We had a lot of people come to visit Carthage Jail and Visitor Center through the Thanksgiving Holiday.   Saturday night Elder Harris and I did Jed and Annie at the Rendezvous.

Here is where the men sing "Willingly" song.

We are singing the song "Little Town" at the end of the program.

Tami still with us.

Thursday- Nov. 14, 2013
This day is Elder & Sister Harris's preparation day so we were up and ready to go to Nauvoo for part of the day and then to drive Tami and the Children to Peoria, Illinois.  Ken will drive from Chicago and meet them at the Hotel.  They fly home Friday morning about 6:00 am.
Here we are at the Family Living Center to make a rope.  Elder Scott is teaching how to make a rope.

Here is Caroline turning the wheel to make a rope and Kyler.

Rt. Mark is turning the wheel because Caroline got tired. Then Kyler says I want a turn so below he is turning the wheel all by himself to make the rope.

We couldn't believe Kyler was strong enough to turn that big wheel but he is a tough boy.

Caroline and Tami are holding this paddle while Sister Harris is turning the big wheel.

Kyler says I want to help.

Mark is turning another thing that helps in making the rope.

Caroline is whipping the ends of the rope.  She is doing a great job.

As you can tell it takes the whole family to make the rope so here they are finishing the rope.

Sister Campbell told us about how the bread was baked at the Brick Oven and then we had a test of  the wheat bread, it was soft and Yummy!!!

Here we are holding the Temple Plate.   Mark, Caroline, Sister Harris( Grandma), and Kyler.
We are entering into the Sarah Granger's Home.  Sister Monney is greeting us.

This little plant is growing inside the window sill, how interesting is that.
Sister Monney showing the Parlor room.
Here is the original Bible Sarah's husband, Hirum gave her and he was not a member.
That is so thoughtful of him.
This is up stairs the rocking chair that Brigham Young made and was given to Sarah or her husband bought it for her, we don't really know.
To the left is her original  trouseau chest in the bottom corner and here is a spinning wheel                                                                  that might be like one she used.
This is the bedroom.  Isn't the baby rocker so adorable.

Elder Harris(Grandpa), Tami, Sister Perkes, Sister Harris(Grandma), Kyler, Mark, and Caroline.

We went to the Cheap Boots & shoe shop.  Caroline, Grandma, Tami,Mark, and Kyler.

Here is inside the boot and shoe shop.  Kyler laying down on a bench. Caroline, Elder & Sister Harris and Mark.  It was really interesting because Elder Harris's ancestor was a tanner in a boot shop in Nauvoo.

We went to the Lyon Drug and Variety Store after the Sarah Granger Home.

Caroline, Mark, Kyler, and Elder (Grandpa) Harris------ Kyler and Caroline running down the hill to the car. What a fun day we have had. In the afternoon we left Nauvoo and drove Tami and the kids to Peoria to their Motel.  Ken will drive from Chicago to meet them at Peoria, their flight will leave Friday morning early like 6:00 am or so.  Elder Harris and I drove back  to Carthage. On the way we finally found a place where we could eat supper.  This waiter got to talking to us and said his father is LDS and is moving to live with him in Lewis Town. He has been looking for the church so he could take his father to it.  Their is not a ward in Lewis Town so he has to drive him out of town to a ward.  We hope that his father will get his son interested in the Gospel.  His father isn't very healthy so his son has got a doctor and knows where a hospital is if his father needs it.  We were so happy to have family come and visit us.  The Gospel is true and I love you all.

We are all cuddled in blankets and it was a nice ride.  We loved it!!!

About  One or Two in the afternoon Ken had to leave and drive back to Chicago for his work.
They took these pictures before Ken left.

While the children were at the house we dressed them up with Grandma and Grandpa's Hats.  Cute Grandchildren.

Tami gave the children naps while we worked and fixed us supper when we came home so we could drive to Nauvoo to do our Rendezvous.  We did parts in every song and  Jed and Annie this night.   The Lord blessed us again.  Tami said we did such a good job.

Rendezvous----- I say,"Now why didn't I think of that!" and at the end I say,"Ouch" when the needle sticks my finger and I run outside.

This is singing the Relief Society song.
Sister Harris in the blue dress.
Elder & Sister Harris doing Jed and Annie in the Rendezvous.  This is at the beginning.
Elder Harris just ask me to stay in Nauvoo and Marry him.  I say," My wagon is already loaded and all I have left to pack is this basket of medicine and herbs."
"You know how much you mean to me Jed."
" Think about what your leaving behind, fruit trees and so on."
I say,"What about your chewing and spitting Tobbaco?" He says," You don't expect me to swallow that stuff do you?"
Then at the end he ask me to Marry him again, and I say" O, Jed I really want too."
The editor come's in on stage and says we have to leave Nauvoo.  Jed says " We need to stay and fight." Then another man says," There are other man that feel the same so let's go find them."
They go down the stairs and another man stops Jed and tells him that Brigham Young says" we need to leave Willingly.  Jed is a nonmember and they talk him into going with Annie and the rest of the pioneers.
Jed sings with all the men, The Willingly Song because we want too.

At the end of the song they all walk out and then we sing the last song, Little Town.
Elder Harris and Sister Harris singing the last song, " Little Town".
This is the end of Rendezvous. What a busy day we had today.
