The second week of August

Monday- 5 Aug. 2013
This is Ashton Jed Harris' Birthday to day.  Happy 6th Birthday Ashton, hope you have a great day.
We did Sunset by the Mississippi tonight.  I am always worried that I won't get my apron tied because one night it wasn't tied very good and I almost lost my apron while I was singing " Grandmother's Apron".  It is really fun to perform with the Young Single Performing Missionaries.

We walked the streets down Parley Street for our morning walk today.

It was a beautiful morning so I took some pictures of the water lilies  on the Mississippi River.  Hope you enjoy them.  They are breath taking.

This one is a close up of one of the water lilies.

This is the "Trail of Hope" walk.

This is at the beginning where you can read all the different stories and writings on the boards.

We are having a good walk in the morning.

As you walk down the street you can look back and see the Nauvoo Temple that the saints saw as they left Nauvoo.
Here we are at the end of the "Trail of Hope" the Mississippi River.
Here is a Pioneer Wagon what they looked like when they went across the  Mississippi river at this point.

We did "Sunset by the  Mississippi" in the evening.
Had a wonderful day today.  We hope you enjoy your day!!!

Sunday-Aug. 4, 2013- I forgot to put this very special meeting in the blog...
Sister and Elder Zwick of the quorum of the seventies did a training on Sunday Night.   It was great to have them here in Nauvoo to talk to us missionaries.  It was "We must go everyday in faith".
Principle- Have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Be Greatful for our Blessings-   Have Graditude in our hearts for God.
The Lord loves Preach My Gospel.  Everyone should have one in their home and read and study it everyday with the Book of Mormon.  Ye are the light of the world- let your light so shine.
D & C 88: 50
He told us that a one of the twelve Apostles gave us our calls, and where we would be going on our mission.
Mormon 6:19
It took 9 years to make the book, "Preach My Gospel" and President Hinckley wanted to help the missionaries  with the harvesting.  O, how he loves the missionaries.  We must do more for the missionaries. "Preach My Gospel" was Puplished  in June of 2004.  Get a small copy so you can have it with you all the time so you can study it every morning and night.
D&C 132: 19 and section 130.  He said there are 92,520 Missionaries currently serving right now and 1,393 Senior Missionaries currently under assignment as of 7-2-2013.
If you have this book read Chapter 3 and Chapter 6.  These chapters will strengthen your testimony.  Well, I guess I have done enough preaching. Love you all.

Wednesday Aug. 7, 2013
We had our early 8:00 training meeting and then went to our sites.  Then in the evening we did our Rendezvous two again this night.  The Scott's did the Noah and Sophia this night. We will do it on Saturday night.  It is always so fun to talk to the people after the show.  They really enjoy the program.

Thursday- 8 Aug. 2013
Happy 41st. Birthday Tami Bonney.  We hope you had a great birthday today.  I can't believe how all of our children are getting older and I don't like it because it makes me that much older too.  This is our preparation day and we have to be back for Sunset program.

When we went for a drove we saw this Raccoon but I couldn't get a very good picture.  As you can tell he was running from us.

These are some beautiful purple flowers close to the White water lilies and the Raccoon was running by the road pretty close to these flowers.

Thresher Days-Aug. 3, 2013

Saturday Aug. 3, 2013
Here is the group that went on the Nauvoo on the Road again.

Elder & Sister Excel, Elder & Sister Broadbent, Sister Ross, Sister Garner, Sister Etherington, and Sister and Elder Harris.
Sister Harris excited she has learn how to keep a button in the middle of the string spinning by moving her hand in and out.  This is the 1st time that she has accomplished this game.

We went to Hamilton with the Nauvoo on the Road.  Thresher Days is a big celebration in Hamilton about 15 miles away. Here are the tractors coming down the road to show at the Thresher Days.

All these tractors were so cool driving down the road like they were in a Parade.
Of course, they had traveled down the road on Thursday to park at the
Thresher Days.  We went on Saturday and was there all day doing the Nauvoo on the Road.  We showed everyone that stopped by how to play the pioneer games and they got to make a rope and take one rope home with them per family.  This day was fun. This one tractor is from a farmer that he made from scratch.

 Here is the tractor.

This is what the motor looks like.
Pretty Cool.

This is a Unique Tractor.

On Friday night we went to the Pageant performance.   Elder & Sister Harris had to do Noah & Sophia in the Rendezvous on Saturday night and  that was the last performance of the Pageant for the year.   A lot of people will be gone after Saturday night.  The missionaries that work at the FM were up half the night cleaning up the park so on Sunday about everything was gone.  The families left home after church.  Here are some pictures of a lot more tractors.  Elder Harris would have liked to buy and bring back home to Blanding but he didn't know were to keep it until we go home.

This looks like a Disneyland Tractor.
This is a different looking Tractor.

This looks like a skinny tractor.
This is an old "R" that Grandpa Harris drove when he was a teenage boy.
                                                                 This is so cool.
Here are a few more tractors.
                                                       These are different tractors.

This is like the old bean combine that the Harrises used at Dodge.

This is just a different view of the combine.
The old John Deere AR-- Grandpa Ashton Harris' first tractor.  It is behind Callie's house.

A new Month- August 2013

August 1, 2013- Thursday,
This was our preparation day and Sister Harris had a doctors appointment in Keokuk  to a specialist about my Right thumb clicking.  He gave me a shot in the joint and it has taken a few weeks but I think it is improving, it seems to not click anymore.  I have had a a shot in it before I came on our mission, hope it last longer than the last one.  It really doesn't hurt but my thumb locks up.  I have been working on my Sunday School lesson that I do on Aug. 18, 2013.  I have only had the call to do the lesson for two months.  It is terrible  to know that you have to give a lesson for such a long time.  You worry because you are giving the lesson to about 250 to 300 missionaries and visitors.  I have been working on it along time.  It is Lesson 30, The Prisoners will go free ( Baptisms for the Died). Then we went to do the  "Sunset by the Mississippi".   It is getting sadder because the Young Single Performing Missionaries will be going home soon.   I keep thinking how much they light up our lives.  What am I going to do without them.  We won't be doing the Sunset by the Mississippi anymore until next year.  I really like this program.  Life goes on!!!!

Friday, Aug. 2, 2013
Today is our early morning breakfast that we have once a month, it is at 7:00 am.  It is always hard because missionaries are leaving Nauvoo and they do a skit and we sing the good-by song.  You can't help but just cry and cry. Today we also sang good-by to all the performing missionaries and the Nauvoo Brass Band. I have become really good friends with some of them. Here are some pictures.

Sister Harris and Sister Welding- she is in the Nauvoo Brass Band.

Sister Harris and the two companions- They are both in the band. Awesome sisters.

This is sister Shaw we have been friends from the first day. She will be going to school in Cedar City.

Here are a few of the Performing Missionaries.  They are so great. Love them all.
Sister Harris and Sister Petricek going home to Wisconsin- 18 month mission.

Sister Harris, Sister Petricek, Elder Harris-  We have had a lot of fun knowing Sister Petricek.  She really enjoys teasing Elder Harris and pulling my leg.

Sister Streeter and Sister Harris, she is going home in three days.   Her 18 Months Mission has ended.   She is a really good Missionary.  They serve here in Nauvoo for Two summers and then they are sent some where else in the United States for the winter time.  They teach people the gospel going to different homes but when here the serve at the Nauvoo Visitor Center and give tours and give out referral cards.  In the evening the missionaries are doing phone calls from the referral cards.  Boy, they know the gospel so well and are great teachers to the converts that come to the visitor Nauvoo.
This is Elder Lyman, His grandmother, Nancy Martineau lives in Blanding and he is related to all the Lymans there.  His other grandmother was Hazel Lyman.  He is in the Nauvoo Brass Band and he played the trombone.  He was one of the Elders that served here in Nauvoo for four months.

Today I got to go to Pioneer Pastime.  Yes, I really like to teach people how to play the pioneer games.  I  at 12:00 noon which might be pretty hot today.  all though our days have been cooling off more.  It feels like its getting fall, I can't believe we've had summer and it really hasn't been that hot, yet.  They said last year it got up to 108 in the summer.  Elder Harris is working in the Blacksmith shop today and he goes at 12:00 also.  It can get hot there at the Blacksmith shop because of the fire they need to make a horse shoe.

Happy Days

Tuesday- July 30 and 31, 2013
Sister Harris did the Heber C. Kimball's Home.  I go at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Then I go back at 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.  Here is the home.
This is the beautiful Heber C. Kimball's Home which is right by the home we live in.
Elder Harris served in the Browning Gun Site.  He worked at 12:00 PM to 6:00 pm.  Elder Harris works a lot in the same places.  The Elders don't work in the homes like John Taylor's, Brigham Young's, Wilford Woodruff's, or Heber C. Kimball's homes unless they serve with their wives on Sunday. It is wonderful to work at these homes.  The spirit is so strong in these homes.

Wednesday- July 31,2013                                                                                                          We go to a early Training Meeting every Wednesday and then to our sites.  Sister Harris went to Land and Records at 12:00 to 6:00 pm and Elder Harris served at Riser Boots on at 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Then we had to get to Rendezvous for two shows.  We have had a great month of July.  Love it all Sister Harris

End of July

Monday- July 29, 2013
Sister Harris is at the Sarah Granger Kimball's Home from 9:00 am through 3:00 pm.  L love this home you can see the Nauvoo Temple from her front window.  Elder Harris is at the Family Living Center from 12:00 pm through 6:00 pm.

This evening we did the Sunset.  It is so fun to perform with the Young Performing Missionaries. Here are some pictures.

Elder Harris walking up to the stage presenting the flag.  He does this every night at the "Sunset by the Mississippi."

Elder Harris is marching up the stairs and he
keeps up with the drummer.
