We can be a Missionary!!

Hi, this April 11 I think.  Yesterday we had another try at teaching live investigators.  We did much better--maybe we can learn to do this.  We have another simulation today.  Each day when we eat at the MTC I am just flabbergasted at the number of young elders and sisters.  There are literally thousands of them.  I don't know how many of each gender, but it looks like pretty even.  We keep looking for Blanding folks, but no seeum.  We have seen David and Karen Adams several times but I think they left yesterday.  We have great spiritual and motivational experiences every day.--check with you later--time for breakfast.   Elder Harris

Role Playing

April 11,2013

Well, yesterday we taught a real live make believe couple.  They were so golden it did not matter what we said, which was a good thing because we really rambled around.  We have another one of those sessions today, hope we survive.  We have run into David and Karen Adams several times. They can't leave because the roads to the Martin Cove area are icy or closed with snow drifts.  Talk later.

Mission Training Center Experiences

April 10, 2013

We went to our classes and learn how to be a good missionary. What wonderful talks we heard and we did have some frightening experiences. We had to get up in front as couples and show how we would practice sharing the gospel with others.

We stayed in an motel because the MTC was full of couples and single missionaries.  I had sat the first day by an older single sister, Sister Redd to help her feel comfortable being there.  She ended up in my district and I was thrilled she was there.  She was very hard to get to know because she didn't talk much. Her companion was Sister Dennis and they were staying in the same motel as we were.  Each day we drove to the MTC we would see Sister Dennis and she was waiting for a transport bus to the MTC so one day we ask her if she would like a ride to the MTC, of course she also was in our district.  We asked her how come she wasn't going with her companion to the MTC.  She said,"that Sister Redd gets up early and uses the bathroom and then leaves and doesn't invite her to ride with her."  I couldn't believe what I was hearing so we invited her every day to ride with us.  Sister Redd was going to the Nauvoo Mission and Sister Dennis was going to Alburquerque Mission to work in the office there.  They didn't have much in common  but Sister Redd was a lonely women and didn't have much communication.

Our Second Day at the MTC

 Tuesday April 9, 2013
Brother Petersen is in charge of the instruction of Preach My Gospel.  He was the funniest man I know.  In our first meeting we talked about our purpose as a missionary, he had us all laughing so hard you couldn't go to sleep if you wanted too.
The Spirit here at the MTC is so wonderful.  They taught us how to play role today.  It was scary but we did great.  The teachers said, "we all did great in our district."  We have eight people in our district.
It seems like all we do is eat here.  You can't believe how many Elders and Sisters are here at the Missionary Training Center, about three thousand.  This evening we stayed after our classes and went to a fireside.  It was Gerald N. Lund, Emeritus Seventy.  He was so spiritual, he talked about receiving Revelations.   Brother Lund wrote one of his books about the Hole In The Rock.  I don't read a lot but I loved this book.  He had your attention the whole time.   A large Choir performed from the missionaries, Elders and Sisters.  It was so powerful and I just love listening to the male voices.  I want all my family and friends to know how much I love the Lord and Jesus Christ my Savior.  I am so grateful to be a missionary and be an instrument in Gods hand.  I do know that we can live again with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ if we keep His Commandments.    Joseph Smith restored the fullness of the Gospel on the earth in this dispensations.  The priesthood authority was also restored to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.   Keep the faith, Love Sister Harris

P.S. I forgot to tell you who we ran into Andrea Perkins Hall.  Her husband is going to be the  Mission President at Mexico City Northwest.  They are here learning Spanish for several months.

Day one at MTC--April 8, 2013

Hi-- at one o'clock this afternoon, we had a  meeting with the Mission Training Center Presidency.  One of the counselors is Jim Hacking from Blanding.  We all had to introduce ourselves and so Elder Jim Harris mentioned that he was President Hacking's cousin. Then the President called me up to bare my testimony and to tell stories about Jim Hacking,  He is several years younger than I so  I had nothing salacious to tell.  I just bore my testimony and after the meeting had a nice visit with Jim.  I told the president that "whatever happens in Blanding stays in Blanding."  He laughed.

We really have had a pretty good day. We have met lots of good down to earth farm type people.  There are 44 couples here going to Nauvoo and about a dozen going to the Handcart Mission in Wyoming.  The MTC president remarked on this emphasis on historical sites as all missions are pleading for more couples.  That's all for now--goodnight.
