Sunday- May 5, 2013
May 5, 2013
Hi, it is Sunday and we go to church by 8:00 am but Elder Harris had to help set up chairs so we were there by 7:00 am. We go to meetings until 11:00 then we usually are at sites by 12:30 pm. Today we were on call so we got to do whatever we wanted to do. We drove around and looked at places and I went over to Sister Bennett's place for she taught me how to crochet a collar for my pioneer dress. It is going to look really cool.

I'm tired and tomorrow I will put in some pictures. Late, see ya tomorrow. The Church is true and I love you. Sister HarrisSaturday, May 4, 2013
Printer Shop & Log School House
Hi, I wish some of you techi kids were more available.. I continually save things to my favorites but they don't show up anywhere when I go to looking for them. I worked at the Printers shop today. Our only salvation is that the guests know less than we do. Fortunately we are only supposed to keep them for about 15 minutes and then move them along, so we have to do the history thing plus try to leave a spiritual nugget of thought in pretty quick order. Sister Harris will add more. Elder Harris
Saturday I worked at the Log School House. It is two sites in one. It is about this man named Calvin Pendleton, and the other site is the log school house. Dr. Pendleton is a medical doctor that likes to prevent sickness and use herbs and nature to heal what is wrong with you. He loved education but was not a school teacher. The school was built on the spot where Dr. Pendleton built his log cabin for his wife. He was a bachelor when he joined the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The children in the Common School learn phonics. It is from 1st to 8th grades here in Nauvoo. Anyway I won't bore you anymore you will have to come to Nauvoo and learn what they do in the school house, it is really cool.

Early bird gets the warm....
Friday, May 3, 2013
We were up at 5:30 am because today they have a early morning breakfast at 7:00 am. I signed up to take a breakfast casserole and had to cook it before we went to the breakfast. We are always busy doing something and I don't know what days it is most the time. I can't believe tomorrow, Saturday we have been here for 2 weeks already. We work until 5:00 pm if your on a 11:30 shift and if you start at 9:00 am then your done at 2:00 pm. Then practices the songs at 5:10 pm each day. Run home to eat and go to watch the Rendezvous at 7:00 pm because we will be in it someday and we practice the songs with the cast as they do their parts. Home at 8:30 and then study for the next day of sites so we know what to teach when someone comes to that site. Sister Harris will be in the Log School House tomorrow. Elder Harris is at the Printing Shop.
Today, Friday Sister Harris was in the Family Living Center and I got to make bread in a bustle oven, really cool and bread is so good, everyone gets a piece of bread to taste. We had school groups come to see Nauvoo as a school field trip.
They love to come to the Family living center but they are not members of our church and we can't talk at all about our religion. We are to only show them some pioneer things you can learn to do, educational. We show how to make homemade candles, make rope, spinning wheel, to make thread from wool, to make rugs and make a barrel that hold liquid, and pottery. Elder Harris worked at the black smith site today. Well, it is late must leave, I will try to take some pictures to put in blog. Good Night!!!

Preparation Day- Thursday- May 2, 2013
Thursday- May 2, 2013
Hi, This should be of interest to us Harrises and our Washburn cousins. We have an Elder Spencer here who is just ready to go home. I spoke briefly with him about his Spencer ancestry. He grew up in Northern Utah but his family came from Escalante. One of the prominent names in his family was George. Sarah Marinda married George Spencer. She was the third wife--a school girl if you remember the story. One of the other wives was named Mary Ann Payne. She had ten children--one named Joseph William Spencer who died in Escalante. I have found a cousin!! The first cousin other than our Washburn cousins. He goes home next week so I found him and may never see him again--but don't you think that is cool. We probably have lots of really neat Spencer cousins that we will never know--Too bad--they don't know their cool washburn cousins either.
I told the Mission President he was on family property but he wasn't too impressed. Great Grandpa Thompson had an eye for real estate. Both lots owned by him would be extra ordinarily desirable today.
Today was a Preparation day--we got up for a 6 am hair appointment--that was important-- and then went to the Nauvoo Temple, that was really neat. We moved into 4 different rooms. They were Beautiful and we climbed a lot of stairs but they do have a elivator. The spirit there was so special in the Temple, and I want to go often. Jenny, you will need to send us a few family names that we can do Endowment's for. We also went to Keokuk to do some shopping later on and now we are tired and ready to go to bed. Good night to you all. Elder Harris and Sister Harris

Finding Ancestries land in Nauvoo
April 30,2013
Hi everyone. Today served in the Blacksmith shop--my horseshoes look like they were intended for a horse with twisted hooves--I am getting better. Beverly served in the Heber C. Kimball Home. It was kind of a quiet day--not as many guests as yesterday. I had a little free time so I went to the Lands and Records Office. I was able to get a map showing the property that Grandpa Abraham Washburn owned. I haven't gone looking yet. It appears it will be in an inhabited portion of town. I also checked on Great grandpa Thompson. Now, he had the coolest lot in town. He had two lots but the one I like is on a bluff overlooking the river--fabulous view. The other lot appears to be the property our mission president lives--needless to say, he has the best home in town--do you think he would share since that property was once our ancestors? Sister Harris' Great Great Grandpa Mayer lived in a home across the street and where we live now adjoins that of Heber C. Kimball's and kiddie corner to Mayors home.

Here are some dishes I would like to have some day in Heber's home.
Brent in the music room in Heber's home.
I want to just note that the Temple President is Spencer Condie, (GA Emeritus). He spoke at a Sociable (Fireside) Sunday Night. HE IS TERRIFIC. He kept even me wide awake. He was telling humorous stories about General Authorities. Our leaders truly have a human side as well as spiritual.
Every Wednesday we have a mission training at 8 am--On Friday we have a mission breakfast--there are not many dull moments around here--Cheers to all. Elder Harris
